Rejected, just like in high school

Tonight I got the rejection email from apple. As others have mentioned, they dont give you any real reason. Thus I have sent an email off to them asking for specifics.

Here is the rejection:

Thank you for submitting WWCD - What Would Chuck Do to the App Store. We've reviewed the Application and, consistent with the criteria considered in our approval process, we have chosen not to publish this application. As you know, Apple reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to reject an application for any reason.

Broken Down

The app approval process has been such a headache. So to try to eliminate this headache I have changed this app to just be a free app. I hope that this will allow the app to be approved and released so that I can at least get my first app out the door.

I will update *IF* this changes anything.

Same Template Yet Again

Response:

We received your application named WWCD - What Would Chuck Do, which appears to include features that resemble Chuck Norris/identify Chuck Norris. Chuck Norris has previously objected to other applications that include features that use his name or likeness, and believes that such features infringe his rights.

Please take steps to review your application to ensure that it does not violate the rights of another party. Remember that, pursuant to our agreement, you have represented that your application will not infringe the rights of any third party, and that you are responsible for any liability to Apple because of a claim that your application infringes another party's rights. Also, we may reject or remove your application if we believe that doing so is prudent or necessary.

Thank you for your attention.

Regards,

Exactly as it was before. I naturally responded with a similar response as before. Are we just going to go in circles?

Ding Dong, another email out the door

I have sent yet another email to the App review team requesting an update. I am holding my breath and crossing my fingers in hopes that this will help some action, even a rejection, to occur. Here is a copy of my email:

App Review,

this app has been submitted and in review since March 13th. I am requesting a status update to my app submission. This is a very simple app that consists of two data dictionaries and two views. There is nothing complex about then app that would cause distress on your end. Please take the time to review this app and make some kind of action move forward?

As always, I appreciate your time.

3 emails later.....

After 3 emails I have received another worthless reply:

Thank you for contacting the iPhone Developer Program regarding review time. Each application submitted to Apple has different capabilities, features, and complexity, which means that individual review times vary. Once the application review process has been completed, you will receive an email notification.

So 70 days after submission and apparently this is acceptable for an app with two views and two data dictionaries. Wonderful!

No activity, new inquiry sent.

As of today the WWCD is still in the status of "in review". With this in mind another email has been sent to the app review team. The following is a snippit of the email:

During the design of this app direct references of Chuck Norris were omitted in preparation of the app submission and Chuck Norris' name being defamed in any way. Just before the submission of this app there was an app that was rejected named iNorris. In an effort to not use comparisons this app nor any other has been mentioned. All that will be mentioned is that the rejection of this app gave the developer confidence in the design concerns that were addressed.
...and...
Finally, it is requested that this application continue through the review process and be approved as there is no reference to Chuck Norris in this application. It is a simple app that references a generic "Chuck". A comparison to Chuck Norris is not stated in this app and is not condoned with this app. If one is to take this application as a Chuck Norris app, this would be of their own will and not that of the developer.
With all due respect to Apple, we are really confused as to why this application cannot even get a review by the app store. Not mentioned in the email to them, but very relevant to this issue, is why an app that consists of shaking a baby to get your frustrations out can be accepted (http://bit.ly/14CEfv).

Although this application has been removed from the store, following public outrage, poses the question of why WWCD has not been accepted? Or even reviewed after 6 weeks of waiting in the review process.

Lets all cross our fingers in hopes that the review process will move forward and get this app accepted and on the app store.

The entirety of the email to Apple was not posted to respect the business relationship between the developer and Apple.

Update of no update

Well 5 days have gone by since the email from the developer program. No status update as of yet. I have inquired again on the status of the app so we shall see if I can get a reply. Although I am not holding my breath but I am at least looking at it positively.

Lets all keep our fingers crossed, mine are taped crossed.
